A hire company cannot look at vehicles for you until it knows the dates, so put them at the beginning of your message and reach out as early as the job allows — weekends, month-ends and holiday stretches are when demand for vans is most likely to bite. When deciding how long to book, add up everything the day involves rather than the driving alone: collecting the van, the walk-round and paperwork, loading, the trips between addresses, unloading and returning the keys.

Measure the Load Before Naming a Van
